Remove Bing Search Results: Every Microsoft Route

How to remove Bing search results: Microsoft's privacy, intimate image, copyright and outdated page routes, what each asks for and what it refuses.

To remove Bing search results, you file the Microsoft route that matches the problem: the Report a Concern form for exposed personal information or an outdated link, the European name-based form, the intimate imagery report, the copyright form, or the Content Removal tool for pages that are gone. Each route removes a link from Bing only; the page stays online until the site that hosts it takes it down.

That distinction decides almost every case. Microsoft's own support page on reporting a concern says Bing does not control what websites publish and limits removals to a narrow set of circumstances. A link to accurate, lawful, live content that you dislike is usually not removable on Bing.

One limit applies throughout: two Microsoft pages load only with scripts running and could not be read here, the Report a Concern form itself and Bing's Webmaster Tools help article on the Content Removal tool. Where a point depends on them, the text says so.

The short version
  • Bing removes a link, never the page, so contact the site first whenever it can be reached.
  • The route follows the problem: personal information or an outdated link, a European name-based request, intimate imagery, copyright, or a page that no longer exists.
  • Microsoft says a request does not ensure removal, and its European form says processing may take up to 30 days, so plan for a refusal and a second route.
  • A Bing removal carries over to DuckDuckGo, and in our reading it makes a page less likely to surface in Copilot answers, but it does not touch engines with their own index.

What Bing removes and what it leaves alone

Bing removes a result when the request fits a narrow category and the page can be shown to fit it. Everything else stays, because Bing is an index of public pages, not an editor of them.

The support page states three limits: reporting does not ensure removal, Bing does not control website content, and a removed URL can still be opened directly until the webmaster removes the page. It adds that the best way to remove content is to contact the webmaster. That gives three kinds of result:

  • Removable on request: sensitive personal information in cases Microsoft accepts, non-consensual intimate imagery, copyright infringement, results that pass the European name-based test, and links to pages that are gone or changed.
  • Not removable: accurate, lawful, live pages you would rather not see, such as critical reviews and news coverage. The options there are the publisher, the law, or pushing the result down with better material.
  • Out of reach: the page itself, its copies on other sites, and other engines' indexes.

The readable Microsoft pages publish no category list for the general form. The form could not be opened here to confirm its categories or fields.

How to remove Bing search results by problem type

Match the problem to the route before filing, because Microsoft treats each route separately and a mismatched request can cost weeks.

The Report a Concern form is the general door for a specific URL in Bing results, and the route to use when no narrower one fits. Microsoft's support page sends factual errors in Bing itself to the Feedback link at the bottom of Bing pages instead.

Because the form could not be read, this is practitioner preparation, not its field list:

  • the exact address of each page, not a Bing results page address
  • the words and country you searched from, with a screenshot of the result
  • a dated record that you asked the site operator to remove it
  • one factual sentence on what is exposed or wrong and why it is not in the public interest

Microsoft Q&A threads carry individual reports, not statistics. In an August 2025 thread a user got a generic reply to contact the site owner and no answer to a resubmission, and in a June 2026 thread a Content Removal request vanished from the submission history while the image stayed in Bing Images. They show that a refusal should be followed by the next route, not by repeating the same form.

European and UK name-based requests: the right-to-be-forgotten form

Residents of Europe can ask Bing to block results that appear for a search on their name, and this is the only Microsoft route built on a data protection test. Microsoft's form page cites the 2014 ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union and says results may be blocked if they are inadequate, inaccurate, no longer relevant or excessive.

The page does not label eligible countries, but its residence menus list the EU states plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, the Isle of Man and the United Kingdom. A minor may file alone, a parent or guardian may file for a minor, and a representative needs legal authority. The form has four parts:

  • the requester's identity, the subject's name and search names, countries of residence, identification documents and a contact email
  • whether the requester or subject is a public figure or holds a role involving leadership, trust or safety
  • the exact URLs, and whether an earlier request covered them
  • sworn statements that the information is accurate, the signer is authorized and the form is complete

The page says a request does not ensure a result will be blocked, an incomplete form cannot be processed, links to search results pages are not accepted, and processing may take up to 30 days. Microsoft weighs your privacy against the public interest, and blocking does not remove the content from the site. The form mentions no appeal process. When read for this guide, the page still showed an "Unexpected Error" heading with no detail, so confirm it loads before preparing a submission.

Microsoft's right-to-be-forgotten requests report shows how the test plays out.

45%of URLs accepted, January to June 2026
51%of URLs accepted since May 2014
9,453requests received in the first half of 2026

Microsoft's report, figures as of August 15, 2026, possibly excluding pending requests. They cover European and UK requests, not the general concern form.

By country the same test varies widely: the report lists acceptance of 56 percent for the United Kingdom, 48 for Sweden, 36 for France and 22 for Germany. It reports requests from Europe, which it describes as including the UK, and from Russia, with a notice at the bottom of the relevant results pages. It lists no requests from elsewhere, so a US resident should not expect this route.

Intimate images: the non-consensual imagery report and StopNCII

For sexually explicit images or video shared without consent, Microsoft runs a dedicated report, and after review it removes the reported links from Bing results globally. That makes it the most clearly defined removal route Microsoft documents.

Microsoft's September 2024 post on intimate image abuse describes three steps: use the web form and confirm the content was shared without consent, submit the page address and the image, and receive an email confirmation before Microsoft assesses and acts. It covers real and synthetic imagery and is for adults. People under 18 should report the material as child sexual exploitation and abuse imagery, and the post points young people to the NCMEC Take It Down service.

StopNCII.org adds a second layer. An adult creates a hash of an image on their own device, and the image is not uploaded. Microsoft's post says Bing piloted StopNCII's hash database to keep matching images out of image results, and a later Microsoft post dated May 27, 2026 says the pilot has run since September 2024, describes a more intuitive global reporting form, says Microsoft keeps human review of reported cases and promises appeal paths. Neither post gives a response time.

Hashing finds copies of a known image, not every new post. The leaked and intimate content service at /leak-removal works the host side and the search side together.

Bing has a copyright form for links to infringing material, and it asks for a sworn statement, so it is a route for rights holders and their agents and never a shortcut for unwanted content. Microsoft's copyright page says to use its online form for infringement in Bing's algorithmic links and in its image and video indexes. Sponsored ads on Bing and partner sites go through a separate Microsoft Advertising form.

A notice includes your contact details, the work, the infringing material with enough detail to locate it, a good-faith statement that the use is not authorized, a statement under penalty of perjury that you own or may act for the owner of the right, and your signature. The page does not mention counter notices, and says Microsoft may terminate accounts of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances.

Microsoft's page on government content removal requests covers demands to remove content from consumer services including Bing. It says Microsoft considers the reason, the requester's authority, the service's policies and its commitments on freedom of expression, and may decline requests that lack proof of law or authority. Court orders are counted there only when a government entity brought them.

That page does not say how Microsoft treats a private order obtained by an individual, and no Microsoft page read for this guide does, so the effect of such an order on Bing is not settled here. Have counsel confirm that any order names the right entity and the exact URLs before relying on it.

The Content Removal tool and what site owners can do

The Content Removal tool is the route for a result whose page is gone or has changed. Bing's own help article could not be read, so what follows comes from Microsoft Q&A threads: an October 2025 answer by a moderator labelled Microsoft External Staff, and reports from users in other threads. Check the details in the tool.

The threads describe two options. Remove page is for an address that now returns a not-found error, and users report that the tool refuses it otherwise: one was told Bing could not verify that the URL was no longer live. Remove outdated cache is for a page whose text has changed. It asks for a word or phrase that appears in Bing's old copy and not on the live page, and the moderator said it must be an exact match. The moderator also said no site verification is needed, a Microsoft account sign-in is, and a Submission History tab shows status, with 3 to 7 days given for the outdated cache option. That estimate is a forum answer, not a published service level.

Microsoft removed visible cache links from Bing results on December 11, 2024, according to trade press reporting on a Bing webmaster team announcement. An October 2025 thread still shows the outdated cache option, so check the live snippet and title after a request processes, not only its status.

If you own the page, delete it so it returns a not-found error, add a noindex robots meta tag, or put it behind a login, then let Bing recrawl. A Bing webmaster post from June 2009 lists a 404 and a noindex tag among the ways to get a URL out of the index, and it is dated, so confirm current guidance in Webmaster Tools. Search Engine Land describes Block URL as a temporary measure that can also clear Bing's stored copy, without saying how long a block lasts. Use it as a stopgap while the real fix takes effect.

DuckDuckGo and Copilot: what follows a Bing removal

A Bing removal carries over to DuckDuckGo, and in our reading it makes a page less likely to appear in Copilot answers, but it does not reach engines that run their own index. DuckDuckGo's help page says most of its traditional results come from Bing, so a request goes to Bing first. It says DuckDuckGo reflects the change automatically once Bing verifies it, and asks you to contact DuckDuckGo if the links remain, since the result may come from another source.

Microsoft's support page on web search in Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat says Copilot generates a short query from your prompt and sends it to Bing, and that a Sources button shows the query and the sources used. It covers that product, and availability depends on account type, license and organization settings, so do not assume it describes every Copilot product.

Our reading, not a Microsoft statement: a page Bing no longer returns is less likely to be retrieved by a Copilot answer that relies on a Bing query, while an answer already generated, or drawn from another source, is not corrected by the removal. No Microsoft page read promises a time between a Bing removal and a change in Copilot or any other Microsoft surface.

How Bing's process differs from Google's in practice

Bing's published process is thinner than the one Google publishes, which changes how much preparation you need. Google's help page on personal information lists named categories: contact details, government ID numbers, financial information, images of signatures or IDs, private records and login details. It also covers doxxing reports, offers a Results about you tool for addresses, phone numbers and email addresses, and says its personal content policies apply globally.

Microsoft's readable pages give no category list for the general form. They give a narrow set of circumstances, a European form with a stated legal test, and dedicated routes for intimate imagery and copyright. In practice:

  • More to explain. With no published categories, your request must say what is exposed, the harm and what you tried with the site.
  • Regional split. The name-based route is limited to Europe and the UK, while the intimate imagery report is described as global.
  • No monitoring tool found. The Microsoft pages read describe no tool that finds your results, so you check Bing yourself.

A worked scenario and a realistic timeline

The scenario is invented, with generic parties: a contractor whose deleted directory listing, with a retired phone number, still shows in Bing.

The order is the site, then the tool, then the concern form, which names the tool request and its date if the snippet has not changed. The ranges below are our experience, not Microsoft figures, and the Microsoft pages read give no timeline for these routes apart from the 30 days on the European form.

StageActionUsual rangeIf it fails
Day 1Ask the site to delete or editHours to weeks for a replyContact the host
Day 2Content Removal tool requestUsually a few daysRecheck the live result
Days 7 to 10Report a Concern form, tool request datedUsually days to a couple of weeksRefile with new evidence
Weeks 3 to 6Second filing, or the name-based form if eligibleVaries widelyMove to suppression

When Bing declines because the page is live and accurate, what remains is the publisher, a legal route that fits the facts, or moving the result down with better pages through suppression.

The next step: file in this order

Fix the source, file the one route that matches, then check Bing and the surfaces that depend on it.

Filing a Bing removal in order
  1. Capture the resultSave a screenshot, the page address, the words you searched and the date before anything changes.
  2. Ask the site firstWrite to the site operator, then the host if there is no reply, and keep the dates. Microsoft names the webmaster as the best route.
  3. Pick one routeUse the table above. Do not file the same page on two routes at once.
  4. Write one factual reasonState what is exposed or wrong, why the page cannot stay and what you already tried, with no argument about the author.
  5. Recheck on a scheduleSearch the same words after a few days and after two weeks, from the same country, and log the result.
  6. Test the downstream surfacesCheck DuckDuckGo and Copilot after Bing changes, and file with any engine that keeps its own index.
If this is happening to you now

If a result on Bing exposes private information, is wrong, or sits beside material you cannot get removed, a private audit maps which route fits each link and which will fail. Reputation Partners starts there, at the private audit.

Questions people ask

Does removing a result from Bing remove it from Google?

No. Bing and Google keep separate indexes and separate request processes. DuckDuckGo is the exception in practice, since its help page says most of its traditional results come from Bing. Each engine with its own index needs its own request.

Can I remove my home address or phone number from Bing?

You can ask through the Report a Concern form, but Microsoft's readable pages list no category for it and limit removals to a narrow set of circumstances. Information that is out of date, wrong or dangerous has the strongest case. Contact the publishing site first, because Bing cannot remove the page.

Do I need to own the site to use the Content Removal tool?

According to a Microsoft External Staff moderator on Microsoft's Q&A site, site verification is not needed and a Microsoft account sign-in is. Bing's own help page could not be read, so confirm in the tool. It works only when the page is gone or its text has changed.

How long does Bing take to remove a result?

Microsoft's European form says processing may take up to 30 days. For other routes the Microsoft pages read give no timeline. A forum moderator gave 3 to 7 days for the outdated cache option and 7 to 30 days for a privacy request. Recheck the same search after a few days and again after two weeks.

Can I use the European form if I live in the US?

Not on the pages read. The form is open to residents of listed European countries, and Microsoft's report covers European markets, including the UK, and Russia. A US resident can use the concern form, the imagery report or the copyright form, depending on the facts.

What if Bing refuses my request?

Read the reply, fix the evidence and file again on the route that fits, or move to the site operator, a legal route or suppression. Repeating a request without new evidence rarely changes the outcome, and the evidence usually matters more than the wording.

Will Copilot stop mentioning the page after Bing removes it?

Not necessarily. Microsoft says Copilot Chat sends a short query to Bing and shows its sources. Our reading, not a Microsoft statement: a page Bing no longer returns is less likely to be retrieved, while text already generated or drawn from another source is not corrected. Ask again and read the Sources list.
