Remove a Quora Answer About You: What Works
How to remove a Quora answer about me: who can act, which Quora policy to cite, how to report it, and what to do when the answer stays up.
To remove a Quora answer about you, you ask the person who wrote it, then report the answer to Quora under the platform policy it breaks. Quora's policies cover harassment, doxxing (sharing personal information without permission), impersonation, non-consensual sexual content and infringement of privacy rights. An answer that is only unflattering, or that you believe is wrong, is not clearly on that list.
That gap explains most failed requests. People report an answer because it hurts, and the person reading the report checks it against a written rule. This guide sorts an answer by what it does, picks the route that can work, and says what to do when Quora declines: ask for a correction, answer in your own voice, or take the legal route with counsel.
Everything about Quora's rules below comes from Quora Help Center pages as we read them for this guide. The Platform Policies page showed a last-updated date of November 19, 2025 when we read it. Quora changes its policies. Some pages we wanted, including the one on what happens after a report and the contact page, could not be read. On a second check the Platform Policies and appeal pages also could not be reopened, so what we say about them rests on our earlier reading. Check the live pages before you file. This is information, not legal advice.
- Sort the answer first. Personal information, harassment, impersonation, intimate images and privacy infringement are policy violations. Criticism and opinion usually are not.
- Ask the author before you report when it is safe to do so. A voluntary edit or deletion is faster and leaves less trace than a moderation decision.
- Report with the "Report" option in the "..." menu, choose the category that fits, and name the exact line that breaks the rule.
- If the answer stays, change what people find: ask for a correction, add accurate material, or consider a legal request. Quora's setting that hides a name from search engines belongs to the author, not to the person written about.
Remove a Quora answer about me: the five routes and when each fails
Four different parties can make an answer disappear or change, and each answers to a different rule. The table lists the routes in the order we usually try them. The last column matters most: it says when a route is a waste of your time.
Related readReport a Mastodon Post About Me: Who Can Remove It| Route | Works when | Speed | Fails when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ask the author | The author is reachable and reasonable, or posted in error or from outdated facts | Hours to days | The author is hostile, or your message reads as pressure |
| Report to Quora | You can name a platform policy the answer breaks | Days, sometimes longer | The answer is opinion, criticism or accurate information |
| Ask for a question to be removed | The question itself is about you and is not tied to a lawsuit or a news story | Days | The question concerns a reported event or a public dispute |
| Legal request | The answer is unlawful where you or the author live and you have counsel | Weeks to months | The claim is only that the answer is harsh, or you cannot show a specific false statement of fact |
| Respond or wait | No policy fits and no legal claim is sound | Weeks to months | A heated reply keeps the thread active and visible |
The speeds are ranges from experience, not promises. The Quora page on reporting says that submitting a report is "the fastest and most efficient way" to get a concern addressed. It gives no timeline, and the page on what happens after a report could not be opened for this guide.
Sort the answer by what it does before you choose a route
A report works when it matches a rule. Sort the answer into one of the groups below, then use only the route for that group.
Quora's Platform Policies are the document the moderators read. As we read them, the parts that can matter to a person written about are these:
- Doxxing. The harassment section prohibits sharing personal information without permission. The list includes home address, physical location, government IDs, Social Security numbers, financial account and credit card details, medical records, biometric data, private phone numbers and email addresses, and the real name of a pseudonymous account.
- Harassment and bullying. Content or behavior intended to harass, intimidate or humiliate someone, publicly or privately, including encouraging others to do so. The examples include questions about a private individual that a reasonable observer would see as harassment, and targeted insults based on personal attributes such as appearance.
- Impersonation. Impersonating another person or acting for an entity without authorization.
- Non-consensual sexual content. The sexual exploitation section covers non-consensual sexually explicit or nude content, including fakes, and revenge porn.
- Intellectual property and personal rights. Posting content that infringes copyright, trademark or privacy rights.
- Threats. Threatening violence or serious physical harm.
Now sort your answer. If it shows your address or phone number, it is a doxxing case and the strongest kind. If it is a run of insults or a coordinated pile-on, it is harassment. If it was written as if by you, it is impersonation. If it is a harsh but arguable review of what you did, it is none of these.
Ask the author first, and know when not to
Contacting the author costs nothing and is often the quickest result. An author can edit or delete their own answer, and many will, especially when the answer was based on an old news story, a mix-up with someone who shares your name, or a thread that has moved on. Quora's help pages describe a private message feature, but they also say that by default you generally receive messages only from people you follow and that users can turn messages off, so the author may not be reachable that way.

"The second paragraph gives my street name, could you remove it?" is easier to grant than "please take this down". Offer the correction if there is one: if a fact is outdated, say what is now true. Keep the message short, polite and free of any threat, because a screenshot of an aggressive message can become the next problem.
Skip this step in four cases. Skip it when the answer contains a threat or your address, because your first move should be to preserve evidence and report. Skip it when the author is the person harassing you. Skip it when you suspect a coordinated group. Skip it when you are advised by counsel to route everything through a lawyer. In those cases, use the platform's blocking tools: Quora's harassment page says a blocked user cannot comment on your answers, tag you with an @-mention or send you Answer Requests, and for harassment away from Quora where you fear for your physical safety, it points to your local law enforcement.
How to report a Quora answer so a moderator can act on it
Quora's reporting page says to use the "Report" option in the "..." menu, choose the option that best describes the policy violation, and submit, which sends the report to Quora's moderation team. The page does not list the categories or say what happens afterward, so read the menu as it appears on your screen.
Preparation takes ten minutes and changes the result. Save the evidence first, because answers get edited or deleted once a dispute starts.

- Match one policyOpen the Platform Policies and pick the single rule that fits best. One strong rule beats a list of weak ones.
- Open the report menuUse the "..." menu on the answer itself, not on the question, so the report is attached to the right content.
- Choose the closest categoryPick the option that best describes the violation. If the menu has a free-text field, write two or three factual sentences that quote the offending line and name the rule.
- Submit onceSubmit a single report. Repeated reports or asking friends to report do not make the content more removable, and Quora's own spam rules treat coordinated activity as a violation.
- Follow up through Quora's Contact Us linkIf nothing changes after a reasonable wait, send the same facts through the Contact Us link on the Help Center, and note the date of the first report. We could not read Quora's contact page for this guide, so check what options it offers.
The Platform Policies state that Quora has sole authority and final decision on whether content or behavior violates them. Possible actions include written warnings, content removal, warning tags on content, and limiting or terminating a user's access. The pages we read do not say whether you would be told which of these was used.
Questions about you are handled differently from answers
If the problem is a question about you rather than an answer, the harassment section has a specific line. It says you may ask for an entire question about you to be removed, but that questions about lawsuits or media-reported topics that mention individuals are allowed.
That sentence draws the line you should plan around. A question such as "Is a named private person difficult to work with?" is the kind a reasonable observer may read as harassment. A question about a court case that was covered by the press and names you is likely to stay, because the policy says such topics are allowed. In the second case, the practical aim moves from deletion to the quality of the answers beneath the question.
A question matters for another reason: each answer beneath it can be reported separately. Removing one answer does not remove the question, and the policy says that when a question about you is removed, its contents are removed with it.
When the answer is false: correction before litigation
If an answer states something false about you as fact, three things can happen, and they are not exclusive.
First, correct at the source. A calm message to the author that sets out the false statement and attaches evidence (a document, a record, a public filing) sometimes produces an edit. Authors on a reputation-driven platform often care about being wrong in public.
Related readRemove a Medium Post About Me: What WorksSecond, report only what fits a policy. If the false statement is part of harassment, impersonation or a privacy infringement, the report route above applies.
Third, consider a legal request. Defamation law differs by country: the test for what counts as a false statement of fact, who can be sued, the limitation period and the role of the platform all vary. We have not read a primary legal source for any single jurisdiction for this guide, so we give no test, deadline or section number here. Your lawyer will tell you whether the statement is fact or opinion, whether it names you identifiably and whether it caused harm. A letter from a lawyer to the author is a different step from a request to the platform, and each carries a risk of attention.
Any route that involves fake accounts, mass reports or pressure on the author breaks Quora's spam and harassment rules and can turn a fixable problem into a worse one.
The author may be anonymous, and that changes less than you think
Quora's help center page on anonymity says anonymous question asking ended on July 16, 2021 and that answering anonymously stopped being possible on November 22, 2021. It also says Quora's systems do not retain identity information for the creators of anonymous questions and answers. An older anonymous answer can therefore still exist, with no author to contact.
What matters for you is simpler. A report concerns the content. You do not need the author's identity to ask Quora to review an answer. Unmasking an author is a different, court-driven process with its own risks, and it is not a step in a policy report.

A refusal is not the end, but it changes the aim. You cannot remove a lawful, policy-compliant answer. You can reduce how much damage it does.
The appeal route is built for authors. Quora's appeal page covers people who receive a moderation notification that their content was collapsed or deleted, and it says the "Contact Us" link with the option "I want to appeal a moderation decision" handles other decisions. It does not say whether a person who filed a report can appeal a refusal, and it dates from 2021, so the steps may have changed. If you believe your report was misjudged, a fresh report with better evidence, filed once, is more useful than repeating the first.
Next, consider search. A Quora answer can appear in results for your name. Quora has a setting called "Allow search engines to index your name?", described on its search engine help page. When it is set to "No", crawlers see "Quora User" instead of the name, even on non-anonymous contributions. It is the author's setting, not yours, and it hides the author's name, not the content. The page adds that the answers themselves stay public and can still be indexed, and that the change takes effect only when Google recrawls, which it says usually takes one to two weeks. Asking an author to use it protects them, not you, so it is a poor request.
For personal information, go to the search engine. Google's page on removing personal information from Search lists addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, government IDs, bank and card numbers and private records, and says that doxxing content qualifies when it carries threats or aggregates personal information without a legitimate purpose. It also says Google can only remove things from its own Search results: the page stays on the hosting site and can be found through links and other search engines. Google may also keep content that is newsworthy or important to the public.

A worked scenario with stated assumptions
This is an invented scenario with generic parties. It shows the order of operations, not a case.
Assume a consultant, A, finds a Quora answer, written under a pseudonymous profile, that says A "was fired for fraud". It adds A's employer and the city where A lives. The facts: A was never fired and there was no fraud; the employer's name is public; A's city is stated in A's own professional profile.
A sorts the answer. The fraud claim is a false statement of fact, a legal matter. The employer and the city are not obviously on the doxxing list, which names home address and physical location. A city already shown on a public profile is a weak fit, though a moderator decides. The policy route is therefore weak for the whole answer.
A then asks the author, in two sentences, to remove the sentence about fraud and attaches the written confirmation from the former employer that A left voluntarily. The author does not reply.
A files one report under the closest category, quoting the line and stating it is a false claim. Quora's decision is unknown in advance. Meanwhile A saves a dated screenshot and takes legal advice on whether a lawyer's letter is proportionate. If the answer remains, A's work moves to search: a clear, accurate professional page that states A's actual career history.

A realistic timeline
Timelines vary with whether the author responds and how Quora's moderation queue looks. The ranges are from experience on files of this kind and are not promises.
| Stage | Usual range | What you do | What can slow it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Evidence capture | Same day | Screenshots, links, dates | Answer already edited or deleted |
| Author contact | Days | One short, polite message | No reply, or a hostile one |
| Quora report | Days to a few weeks | One report, then one follow-up | A borderline answer that needs review |
| Search engine refresh | Days to weeks after the page changes | Ask the search engine to refresh or remove, where eligible | The search engine keeps newsworthy content |
| Legal route | Weeks to months | Counsel decides, you provide evidence | Jurisdiction, cost, and the author's identity |
What to do next, in order
Save the answer, decide which single policy it breaks, and file once. If it shows your address or phone number, report it today and send Google a personal information request for the same page.
An answer that shows your address, threatens you or impersonates you should be reported without delay, with evidence saved. If you are unsure which route fits, Reputation Partners can review the answer and tell you what is removable and what is not, before anything is filed. See how removal requests are handled.
Questions people ask
Can I remove a Quora answer that is true but embarrassing?
Usually not. Quora's policies cover categories such as harassment, doxxing and impersonation, not embarrassment, and the harassment section allows questions about lawsuits and media-reported topics. An accurate, lawful answer that breaks no rule is hard to remove. Your realistic options are to ask the author, add context in a reply, and build accurate pages that you own.
Does deleting my own Quora account remove answers about me?
No. Closing your account affects content you wrote, not answers other people wrote about you. The answers about you belong to their authors and stay unless the author or Quora removes them. The exact effect of closing an account on your own content is set out in Quora's help pages, which we did not read for this guide.
Can someone else report an answer on my behalf?
Quora's reporting page says you can report content or users that violate its policies with the "Report" option, and it does not say who is eligible to report. A friend may therefore be able to report a clear violation. But a report from you, as the person named, carries context that a stranger cannot supply, such as the fact that an address is yours. Do not organize groups to report.
Will Quora tell the author who reported the answer?
The pages we read did not say. We could not read the page on what happens after a report, so we cannot confirm how Quora handles the reporter's identity. Assume that the author may guess who reported them, and write your messages on that basis: factual, brief and free of anything you would not want repeated.
How long does a Google result for a Quora answer stay after it is removed?
It depends on when the search engine next visits the page. Google's outdated content help page says to use the "Request refresh" option, enter the page address and submit, and to check the request in the "Refresh outdated content" section of Search Console. It gives no timeline. Quora says its own name-hiding setting usually takes one to two weeks to apply, which is a useful scale for any recrawl.
